Playstation3 Controller, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, PlayStation — Animefanatik at 9:54 am on Thursday, May 11, 2006
More info released concerning the new PlayStation 3 this is the time to talk about the new game pad made for the console.

Sony has shown the controller in the past conference and gamers around the world received one of the biggest surprises since the console was announced. Appearance, features and changes made on the controller caused a division between opinions about the PS3 controller.

Playstation3 controller

Let me make a short review from my point of view…

The Good

Features, including X-Y-Z, pitch, roll, yaw and lateral motion detection, and Bluetooth for wireless play.

Classic game pad shape. Since PlayStation where launched in 1994 I believe that its controller where the most comfortable made at these time. That’s why Sony decided to use the same design for the Dual Shock controller and Dual Shock 2 on PS2. I guess if the formula worked on the past why not to try once again adding better features?

The Bad

This controller will not have vibration functionality, unlike the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii controllers. Sony claims this has to do with interference of the motion sensing, but I believe this can be fixed in a future having Microsoft and Nintendo offering the same on their console’s game pads.

The Ugly

Is the motion sensor a copy made from Nintendo’ Wii controller?

Nintendo Wii Gun

“The Zapper” the new nintedo gun controller that is exhibited at the Nintendo E3 booth. The design of the gun is simple and elegant. The Wii remote rests neatly in the gun. It’s funny how the design has evolutionized since the days of “Duck Hunt “

Playstation 3 Release Date and pricing

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, PlayStation — Animefanatik at 10:44 am on Tuesday, May 9, 2006

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced the release for its video game console Playstation 3 on November 11 on Japan and November 17 America’s release.

Ps3 Pricing

This Time Playstation 3 will come in two different versions which major feature is the inclusion of a hard drive within the console. North America’s price for the Playstation 3 will be $499 for the 20GBhard drive, and $ 599 for the 60GB Hard Drive version.

I’m not happy for the price that was announced by Sony, since it competitors XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii both were offering lower prices for their consoles. However we still have some months to save some money and have the chance to play games such Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII.

Nintendo DS Lite Hits U.S. June 11

Nintendo has announced that its Nintendo DS Lite, a sleeked-down version of its dual-screen Nintendo DS handheld gaming device, will be released in the United States June 11 with a retail price of $129.99. The Nintendo DS Lite is being billed as a “lighter, brigher” version of the Nintendo DS, and will initially be available in “polar white” with other color choises presumably to follow.

The DS Lite is less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS, and roughly 20 percent lighter. The unit also features a longer, slightly thicker stylus, and the microphone, LEDs, and Start and Select buttons have been repositioned. The DS Lite’s screens can have their brightness set to four different levels (which can help conserve battery power), and a removable cover keeps dust and debris out of the GameBoy Advance cartridge slot.

Nintendo also announced a new version of Super Mario Brothers will launch May 15.

Nintendo Revolution renamed ‘Wii’

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, Nintendo — Boza at 7:13 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2006

Well it seems the new nintendo video game console name “Wii” is today´s topic, all blogs are talking about it, here is the explanation the companny spokesman gave us:

Nintendo Revolution Wii
Introducing… Wii.
As in “we.”
While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it’s really not about you or me. It’s about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything. “
Well we have to get used to the name… My personal opinion I prefered “Revolution”

New CPU for Xbox 360 in 2007

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, Xbox — Boza at 11:01 am on Friday, April 21, 2006

Microsoft is apparently upgrading the Xbox 360 CPU early 2007 a semiconductor manufacturer said.

Chartered Semiconductor of Singapore says that they will manufacture the Xbox 360 CPU with 65nm technology. The current Xbox 360 CPU is made with 90nm.

Xbox 360

The reason for this move can be the over heating problem and of course cutting cost. I do not think Microsoft will improve the performance of the new Xbox 360, which would cannibalize the Christmas sales if consumers would get confused and think they better wait until the Xbox 360 with a faster CPU.

Prices Set for PlayStation 3

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, PlayStation — Boza at 2:24 pm on Thursday, April 6, 2006

Playstation 3George Fornay, vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced the European price point for the upcoming Playstation 3 console on radio show France’s Europe 1.

Fornay said that the PlayStation 3 will sell for between €499 and €599. Fornay acknowledged that the price may seem steep, but he emphasized that that price should be seen as inexpensive when one considers that the console will also play Blu-ray movies.

Fornay also confirmed that Sony would be going for a simultaneous launch of the console in November of this year.

f the PlayStation 3 follows the Xbox 360, the console may arrive in North America for US $499 to $599. This would easily make the PS3 the most expensive console on the market, with Microsoft’s two next-gen systems coming in at $399 and $299. To round out the scene, recall that Nintendo is looking to launch the Revolution for less than $300.

Look out for the Sony PS3 in stores this November.

Auto-Mouse - Let your PC play while you can’t.

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles — Animefanatik at 11:14 am on Tuesday, March 28, 2006

auto mouse role play gamesArtificial Intelligence AI, has become more than a science fiction movie… a reality, you can see it on cars, personal computers, web applications and also new generation cell phones. But what do you thing about some device that plays your online role playing games, while you’re out?

Korean gamers are know by its dedication to role games, just remember that men that died after 50 hours playing, so in order to help those extreme games-fans “Cheating devices” appear on the market as a solution for the hunger of experience points.

Joy Mac is one of those cheating tools, an USB device that works on “RF Online” cheating the game server playing with our character with a repeating task… searching a monster, killing it, picking up the money and items, recovering strength, etcetera … Joy Mac looks like a portable USB storage with a flash memory chip and electronic circuits inside. It can grab video signals transmitted between the PC and the monitor, and analyze the signals to make a judgment.

From my point of view, those devices are good enough if our goal is to sell a character, but if your gaming skill are as good as mine, then auto-mouse only decreases the playability value of role play games, making a game a daily task instead of a entertainment time.

Develop Your Own Video Games

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles — Boza at 4:04 pm on Monday, March 27, 2006

Make your own video gameEveryone who enjoys video games has most likely wondered how they are made, and more importantly how to make their own. The Blitz Reseach company has answered the call for a programming platform specifically for game development (in both 2D and 3D). Let me be the first to inform you that the Blitz platforms are not One-Click solutions to game development, and the user must first learn their BlitzBASIC language to utilize their product. However, BlitzBASIC is an extremely simple programming language that has all aspects of game programming covered, such as sprite generation, collision detection, GUI features, and much more. The only drawback is that this is a Commerical product, but it is modestly priced and quite affordable for anyone. Check out their site and download a demo.
