Don’t put your Mac laptop on you lap?

Filed under: Notebooks, Computers, Apple — david at 4:53 pm on Friday, May 19, 2006

MacBook Pro overheatedThe overheating on the new MacBook Pros is getting fixed quietly by an updated in the line’s firmware. However, the company apparently still doesn’t want to take any chances on users getting a little overheated while using the laptops, so they’ve included a warning in the manual (which also appears in the manual for the MBP), advising not to use their laptops on their laps? Apple’s solution to this is to recommend that customers put the laptop on a desk or other flat surface. And, not surprisingly, the word “laptop” does not appear once in the MacBook’s manual.

Blu-ray burner now available at $999

Blu-ray BurnerThis burner can record 25GB onto a single-layer Blu-ray disc in 45 minutes, and now it’s available for purchase — if you’ve got a grand to spare. We’re talking, of course, about Pioneer’s BDR-101A Blu-ray burner, one of the first products of its kind to hit store shelves. The 2X E-IDE internal burner for PCs is now available from Tiger Direct for $999.99, and the etailer claims it will ship units in “7-21 days.” Start clicking if you just can’t bear to wait. And don’t forget to budget an extra $25 a pop for those blank BD-Rs.

Apple has launched laptops MacBook Core Duo

Filed under: Notebooks, Computers, Apple — david at 11:32 am on Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Macbook Core Duo

The new models all share one case design, a 5.2-pound box available in black or white, with a 13.3-inch, 1280×800 display and full-size keyboard. All are based on Intel’s Core Duo processor, at speeds from 1.83 GHz to 2.0 GHz. Apple claims a six-hour battery life for the new models, though we imagine that’s reduced substantially if you spend that time watching DVDs. Like other recent models from Apple, the MacBook also includes an integrated iSight webcam, a remote control, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth. The new models are available immediately from Apple’s online store at prices from $1,099 to $1,499. If you want black, you’ll have to pay more: the $1,499 model is the only one one in the color scheme; other than the case color and an 80GB drive, its specs are identical to a $1,299 white model (the 80GB drive is available as a $50 upgrade for the white version, making the price for the black case $150).

Fiat introduces line of branded cellphones

Filed under: Mobile phones — david at 2:19 pm on Monday, May 15, 2006

Fiat Cell PhonesIn yet another example of an automobile manufacturer leveraging the brand to release a distinctly non-car product (see: BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini), Fiat has announced that it will begin selling a line of cellphones conspicuously emblazoned with the company’s logo. Suggesting that this lineup values fashion over function, no specs are immediately available for any of the individual models, although we do know that all will feature cameras, MP3 playback, Bluetooth, and the usual suite of Internet functions. Crafted out of “cold” aluminum, the handsets were designed to be displayed in engine piston-like cases that are meant to invoke the good times you can only find by tooling around the European countryside in your Fiat Panda Monster. The new models — which were built to easily pair with the Microsoft-powered Blue&Me in-car Bluetooth system — will be available in chichi Italian boutiques later this month, with a general European rollout to follow this summer.

Mac Clones Available

Filed under: Computers, Desktops — david at 1:52 pm on Friday, May 12, 2006

Mac CloneWant an Intel-based Mac but don’t want to pay Apple’s prices? A company called Red PCs may have what you’re looking for — if you’re willing to face the wrath of Apple’s lawyers. Red PC is now offering something they’re calling a “PowerPC G6 Macintosh” for $499. According to the specs, the box is basically a generic Pentium-based PC running a hacked version of the Intel version of Mac OS X. For your $499, the company is also throwing in copies of Photoshop CS2 and Microsoft Office 2004, making this quite the deal, given that Photoshop alone can go for over $400. But, then, we assume you’re prepared to deal with Adobe and Microsoft’s lawyers as well if you’re ready to buy this. Unfortunately (or fortunately, as the case may be), the Red PCs web site seems to be down, though the machine is still listed on the Alibaba.com site as available for purchase with free global shipping and a one-year warranty.

Playstation3 Controller, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, PlayStation — Animefanatik at 9:54 am on Thursday, May 11, 2006
More info released concerning the new PlayStation 3 this is the time to talk about the new game pad made for the console.

Sony has shown the controller in the past conference and gamers around the world received one of the biggest surprises since the console was announced. Appearance, features and changes made on the controller caused a division between opinions about the PS3 controller.

Playstation3 controller

Let me make a short review from my point of view…

The Good

Features, including X-Y-Z, pitch, roll, yaw and lateral motion detection, and Bluetooth for wireless play.

Classic game pad shape. Since PlayStation where launched in 1994 I believe that its controller where the most comfortable made at these time. That’s why Sony decided to use the same design for the Dual Shock controller and Dual Shock 2 on PS2. I guess if the formula worked on the past why not to try once again adding better features?

The Bad

This controller will not have vibration functionality, unlike the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii controllers. Sony claims this has to do with interference of the motion sensing, but I believe this can be fixed in a future having Microsoft and Nintendo offering the same on their console’s game pads.

The Ugly

Is the motion sensor a copy made from Nintendo’ Wii controller?

Playstation 3 Release Date and pricing

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, PlayStation — Animefanatik at 10:44 am on Tuesday, May 9, 2006

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced the release for its video game console Playstation 3 on November 11 on Japan and November 17 America’s release.

Ps3 Pricing

This Time Playstation 3 will come in two different versions which major feature is the inclusion of a hard drive within the console. North America’s price for the Playstation 3 will be $499 for the 20GBhard drive, and $ 599 for the 60GB Hard Drive version.

I’m not happy for the price that was announced by Sony, since it competitors XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii both were offering lower prices for their consoles. However we still have some months to save some money and have the chance to play games such Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII.
