Nintendo Revolution renamed ‘Wii’

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, Nintendo — Boza at 7:13 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2006

Well it seems the new nintendo video game console name “Wii” is today´s topic, all blogs are talking about it, here is the explanation the companny spokesman gave us:

Nintendo Revolution Wii
Introducing… Wii.
As in “we.”
While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it’s really not about you or me. It’s about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything. “
Well we have to get used to the name… My personal opinion I prefered “Revolution”

New CPU for Xbox 360 in 2007

Filed under: Video Games and Consoles, Xbox — Boza at 11:01 am on Friday, April 21, 2006

Microsoft is apparently upgrading the Xbox 360 CPU early 2007 a semiconductor manufacturer said.

Chartered Semiconductor of Singapore says that they will manufacture the Xbox 360 CPU with 65nm technology. The current Xbox 360 CPU is made with 90nm.

Xbox 360

The reason for this move can be the over heating problem and of course cutting cost. I do not think Microsoft will improve the performance of the new Xbox 360, which would cannibalize the Christmas sales if consumers would get confused and think they better wait until the Xbox 360 with a faster CPU.

Fujitsu to release first Blu-ray PCs

Filed under: Computers — Boza at 9:17 am on Tuesday, April 11, 2006

FujitsuPC maker Fujitsu said Tuesday it will become the first company to release desktop computers compatible with the next-generation Blu-ray optical discs. The desktops with Blu-ray drives are expected to come out in Japan in June.

Fujitsu’s announcement comes one day after Toshiba unveiled a plan to launch in mid-May notebook computers that can handle HD DVD discs, which compete with Blu-ray in the market for high-definition optical discs.

Fujitsu also plans to launch notebooks with HD DVD drives in June, catering to both camps.

The new desktop PC from Fujitsu comes with a 37-inch LCD screen and is expected to sell for around $5,000 (600,000 yen), a Fujitsu representative said.

The representative added that the notebook PC was likely to retail at about $3,360–in line with the expected retail price for Toshiba’s HD-DVD compatible notebook PCs.

Another Japanese electronics maker, NEC, said Tuesday that it aims to launch HD DVD-compatible personal computers by fall and that it will consider offering PCs equipped with Blu-ray drives as well if there is demand.

At the core of both DVD formats are blue lasers, which have a shorter wavelength than the red lasers used in current DVD equipment, allowing discs to store data at the higher densities needed for high-definition movies and television.
